Athletes in the flesh?  I had that Tom Daly changing his swimmers next to me this am, under a towel, like you might do on the beach.

I watched in unbelief last night the women's épée where there was a contentious decision about the last one second of the bout. It took well over an hour for the judges to decide and there was a lot of frenzied activity by the Sth Korean coach, tears etc. She sat on the piste for over an hour. This was unprecedented in the Olympics.

How long a second can be. It transpired later that she had been issued a yellow card and the clock was thus reset at zero for the last second of play.

The sequel was interesting and the Sth Korean player regained her composure for the Bronze play off but lost.

A week is a long time in politics and a second a long time in fencing.

You got to watch the fencing, Odysseus!
Great!

And Joey.  If there is another "Hand of God" event, sabres will be rattled!

For my news from the Olympic Park, see my Olympic blog at:

Football quarter-finals in Cardiff with children and grandchildren Giggs but no Becham. Come on GB.
We lost on penalties to South Korea Frown,  although very good crowd atmosphere.

I am no great sports fan but last night I was so proud to see Jessica Ennis, Mo Farrow and Greg Rutherford (Long Jumper) get gold medals. It was fantastic. Very inspirational.

It is incredibly inspirational- even my children are talking about taking up sport.... We are all smitten with the Olympics - wonderful to see Mo hugging his family and the modest Jessica Ennis win so convincingly. And then to see Andy Murray win a Gold medal and hold a British flag and sing along to the anthem just a bit, was truly incredible. Bolt was wonderful- amazing sportsman. We are going to see athletics tomorrow (but think there will be no GB contendors- although hey who can tell?) and can't wait - when my duaghter nagged me to get tickets all those month ago I could hardly be bothered. Well I am thrilled to be going now.
Maybe it will inspire a generation- at least my childrens' generation will remember when the games came to london.
