But in all serious JohnD - when you here that £60 million has been spent coverting Greenwich Park for equestrian events and that this all has to be dismantled afterwards the I, for one, think that is obscene.

Skysteve the British are famous about their organising skills and their precision and punctuality.  I think that they will find the way all this story to be in their economic  favour in the end . So enjoy the games as no human has the opportunity to be so close to a such a big athletic event  and see athletes of this level .

Im sure Steve that politicians wil argue that the Games will bring business to the UK.  But I could not possibly comment! And wether it will "inspire a generation" hasyet to be seen.   But The Apollo programme cost more and so did the zChunnel Its really not worth being a Mr.Gradgrind.

Thank you, Auto-Bacchus and and Blessed One of Wasted Youth. En passant, do you drive a little  BMW or a big BMI? I drive a Polo as Apollo drives his car each day across the sky.

P.S. While thanking you for these links, the BBC electrons are blocked from entering the fatal shores of Terra Australis. Our part of the outer arm of the galaxy is blocked by the jamming devices of Olympia Plutocratia in Magna Britannica.

Went to the tennis at Wimbledon yesterday. Such a pity to see so many empty seats, mostly in the best spots and despite officially being 'sold out'. Centre Court was about 90% full for Andy Murray but just over 50% for the other three matches, despite the persistent rain meaning non-Centre Court ticketholders barely got to see any tennis at all, and so many applicants being unsuccessful at the ballot. That's no way to 'Inspire a generation!'. I hope they fill these with Gamesmaker volunteers or put the tickets up for resale in future.

On the plus side, it was amazing seeing athletes in the flesh - never had a chance to see live tennis before. I have a newfound appeciation of their poise, power and grace.
