Hi, could you please let me know your own experience
1. What is the standard frequency of x-ray taking in your respective country? How often does your dentist say you need new ones?
2. Is fluoride application considered necessary i.e. does your health insurance cover fluoride?

Hi lowleelan - you do not say where you practice. In the UK XRs and access to them are quite strictly controlled now. Doctors and dentists hopefully are now being much more cautious and the radiographers who do the XRs are now very happy to say "no" if they think a request is inapprorpriate. Certain things just don't get XRed at all now unless there are strong corroborating factors. So routine XRs for chronic low back pain are a no-no as are XRs for isolated rib fractures or undisplaced clavicle fractures.

Now to your other question - I don't quite know what you mean. Are you referring to teeth? Most people in the UK will brush their teeth with fluoride toothpaste and will have done so since childhood. Some parts of the UK have added fluoride to the public water supply leading to a dramatic decline in dental decay (e.g. Birmingham). It is also worth having your local water supply analysed as it may have some natural fluoride in it anyway - if not and if you have young children there may be some grounds for giving them a degree of fluoride supplementation to help their teeth.
