Recently there was a post about dental problems which led to discussion by mainly Yoram and me about dry mouth which led to discussion about MyCPD as we call it here. (Xeros is dry and stomia, the mouth).

This led to my writing a blog for my own website and doing some spade work (we are an agrarian nation) about xerostomia as I see a lot in my practice. I rand a patient whose mouth I had photographs (I have millions of clinical photos) and she kindly gave me written permission to show her mouth. I also spoke to our pharmacy here about what other medications we have for this terrible affliction. Dry mouth can occur de novo with no cause obvious.

My blog is on www.sarcoidoisis.com.au. It is not perfect but I show this as an example of how doc2doc can lead to better doctoring which then leads to better patient outcomes.

I trust doc2doc won't mind my showing this blog as it is not in competition but collaboration. When this site was founded they contacted me as they had seen my blog. I have been a bit light on for blogs lately. Perhaps I spend too much time on doc2doc. However this site and its personalities and information enriches me.

I admit I can be dry at times.

Has anyone seen severe xerostomia caused by antipsychotics persisting for years after their cessation? I believe I have one such patient.

The literature as far as I have searched is silent in this area as often occurs in problems which present to clinicians. There is often a lack of evidence-based evidence if you know what I mean and this is the value of case reports which is often like putty in some of the gaps.
