We should calmly & carefully listen to what the patient is complaining of & afterall clinical history is the most important aspect of  consultation skill. Thereby interruptions would be the worst part of it!

A bit of 'research' I saw at one point, can't remember where, said that the average time a doctor allows a patient to speak for before interrupting them, is 7 seconds...

I try and stay calm and let the difficult patients ramble on for a few minutes. Eventually they provide clues as to what's wrong with them, and this can sometimes be quicker than asking lots of question!

to be indifferent to what the patient is talking about and not concentrating at the depth of the purpose of consultation.

Not listening to what the patient is saying.  So many patients go out of the surgery saying he didn't even listen to me and because of this they feel the doctor didn't treat what was wrong.

Running par for this one, is not examining the parts that hurt.  Sometimes not even looking at the part that hurts.

Patients want to be listened to, want to be heard, want to know that the doctor knows what he is doing and is able to help what is wrong, not what the doctor thinks is wrong.
Maybe the doctor does know what is wrong, but it is good treatment if the doc is seen to be knowing what he is doing.

I agree with you 100%. It is very important for a patient to know that you listen, you understand, you examin and then suggest treatment and/or investigations. It is not only the medicin that works. When it is laced with your understanding and compassion it works better. Not showing attentiveness to what the patient is saying ,poor eye contact ,hasty examination and always to reassure them.
