Historically gout has been associated with older people, who ate badly or richly. It is no suprise that Henry VIII was a famous gout sufferer with all the rich food ate and excesses he went to.

It has also been associated with cardiovascular risk factors and diabetes but I am hearing of increasing reports of increasingly cases of gout, and especially in seemingly healthy and young people:

Why do you think this is? Is it related to diet?

Today's youth suffer from too much Money, and too little cooking skills, and healthy food choosing skills.  Far too often the menu at fast food places, or even restaurants is heavy on meat and saturated fats, Etc, when it should be rich in Med- style foods, Fruits, Veges Raw and cooked, etc.   We need to re-educate the youth how to eat and cook,   and everyone in general.    DuaneF

Food, lifestyle, obesity, predisposing factors, all join together in orechestrating this unpleasant disease.

Hi,
In my practice I see a lot of patients have high uric acid if they don't eat home cooked meals and take outside meal which is loaded with chemicals and preservatives. Change that to healthy eating and exercise, the uric acid drops. -   Dr Sujata Udeshi

Thanks for an interesting discussion! I do agree with Dr. Yoram Chaiter, Dr. Sujata, & Dr. DuaneF in this context.
The increasing reports of increasingly cases of gout, especially in seemingly healthy and young people might be attributed to our fast lifestyle & increasing intake of the 'junk' fast foods.
