Thank you for taking your time to tell us about your opinion (about the NHS). Do you (or other doctors here) have any expereicne applying for jobs outside of the NHS? As I stated in my post, "being used as a number" is a "phenomena" , spread both in NHS and out of it. |

it is very interesting post as thats not way for itrerview of a doctor who actully serve human. Posted by neuromedicine Isn't it strange that there is so much written how to behave during the interview, what to do to impress the pannel, but once you are rejected - there is no support: the company will never pay your fees and will never give you a frank answer - what exactly were your faults |

Having frequently interviewed more recently than been interviewed, I would respond that interviews fall into 2 categories, those for training posts, which are usually mass interviews at deanery level, and those for single posts within a unit (talking only about NHS here). I have interviewed for staff doctors, specialty doctors, associate specialists and locum appointments both for training and service at various times, as well as training posts and consultant posts. Most of the non-training posts come under the local category. I haven't interviewed for posts outside the hospital setiing, eg General Practice, Occupational Health, Public Health, however.

I used to hate interviewing almost as much as I hated being interviewd , but it is a serious business. Some of your comments are just to do with what used to be called good manners. At its most basic level you must be reimbursed for travel - if not get the BMA involved. Also as a matter of courtesy all candidates not being appointed should have the opportunity to discuss the reason for this , becoming more relevant with more senior posts. Highlighting bad experiences to the relevant College or tutor system may well be worth while. Perhaps doc2doc could help with advice and if necessary helping to compose letters. Clearly if the panel has already largely decided on someone during the interviews it may be difficult not to think about that patient needing urgent review on the ward , but that is where we come back to good manners. On the other side , job acceptance has to be absolute - candidates who accept and then accept a better offer the next week are a disaster and can be a disaster to themselves as well . Much better to be honest and accept provisionally even if it means risking not being given the job. |
