Well, according to the experts consulted by The US News and World Report, it is the DASH diet: http://health.usnews.com/best-diet followed by the Mediterranean diet. However, in terms of ease to adhere to, the Weight Watchers diet came in first.  The complete report is found at the above web page.  By the way 40% of new members to diet and exercise programs enroll in January and like the snow in Indiana are mostly gone by the end of March.  Do you have a favorite diet?

If you have diabetes you will normally be given plenty of advice about a healthy diet. A healthy diet provides health benefits in different ways. For example, it can lower cholesterol, help control your weight, and has plenty of vitamins, fibre and other nutrients which help to prevent certain diseases.

In India most people take diet in which the largest calorie intake is from rice & wheat products. These are highly glycemic and contribute to obesity and which makes control of post-prandial hyperglycemia very difficult. However this problem can be minimised if rice/wheat products are replaced by low glycemic pulses which are also popular. If properly prepared the preparations of pulses containing high protein & complex carbohydrates could provide significant lowering of post-prandial hyperglycemia as trials have shown.

The diet for hypertension and diabetes is the same diet that everyone should be following low glycaemic unrefined complex carbs; a palm of the hand sized portion of protein per day; loads of fresh fruit and veg (and, sorry, no matter what it says on the tin, a can of baked beans won't do as one of your 5 a day); oily fish; low fat dairy produce; no added salt; non sugar; no mono fats. It ain't complex and, more to the point, it ain't expensive.
Indeed, this type of advice constitutes the only advice you need  (apart from don't smoke, do more exercise and, if you live where I do, get more sunlight) and it saddens me how many millions of pounds are thrown away each year on diet books and dietry fads.
Get a grip people!

I recommend the elf diet. Eat like an elf.

Eat less food.

I find the Dukan diet very effective in those without NIDDM or IDDM and in those with normal renal function. Indeed I tell people to lose weight nowwith Dukan before they get NIDDM, renal impairment and start leaking protein from their nephrons.

Australians are incapable of pronouncing "Dukan"  as the French do. Hence it sounds more like Duck'n Diet which is different from the American Dunk'n Diet; dunking their sugar-coated donuts in their large mugs of sweet black coffee while sitting on their bottoms two pick handles wide. Our bottoms are only one and one half pick handles wide but the gap is closing soon as our backsides enlarge at the same rate as our dollar goes up.

For people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, there is a diet plan for them with low sugar and calories. Type 2 diabetes diet plan is considered as the best for the diagnosed ones.

Mediteranean is tasty and healthy, so it is my personal favourite, but you have to work with what you´ve got and cannot convince people, esp. elderly, to change to a certain diet that is completely alien to them. We tried Mediteranean at a hospital I worked in. Younger pts and all staff were happy, older pts ( and there were lots) didn´t dare to contradict, but when asked you noticed you couldn´t win them over for aubergines, tomatoes and olive oil. If you don´t want to encourage sheer noncompliance you have to ask your pts what they like to eat and then make small changes, also encourage them to prepare meals themselves whenever possible. Serve smaller plates, and add a salad or vegetables that need thoruogh chewing whenever possible.

We have a federal diet here - not very effective.
