Get her seen by her family doctor soon. Could be number of possible issues - too much insulin leading to degree of hypoglycaemia? Other biochemical disturbance? Infection? Depression? Early dementia? Covert cerebro-vascular disease? Brain lesion?
Any recent and unexpected change of personality needs investigated.

Sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time with your mother. I can only repeat what Steve above said, which is to get her to see the GP, the sooner the better. The GP can then investigate and order any tests, examinations, specialists etc that may be needed. The GP is the first port of call. The only other thing I will say is that I wouldn't be surprised if it is caused by the Hormonal issues she will be having due to the Menopause....many women have difficulties dealing with this change in their lives. However, as Steve again pointed out, it could also be any number of other issues and may, or may not, be related to her Diabetes. I hope you get her looked at by the GP soon and I hope it gets sorted

Also look for delirium ( Skysteve has noted causes above). Do not forget to enquire about pain .

Would you be kind to keep us updated.
