I was saddened to read the BMJ news story this week of 120 deaths from contaminated generic ISMN in Pakistan. I beleive strongly that local generic drug manufacturing has the ability to make drugs affordable to those who otherwise would be denied but clearly there must be regulation in place. Do we as doctors carry some responsibility if drug regulation is lax?
