Hi Kate, It was our first time in New York, so tried to pack in as much as possible. Would recommend though a stroll through the Meatpacking District and from there follow Bleeker Steet down to Greenwich Village. We also visited the WTC site, and paid for a tour and entry into the museum. The tour was given by an ex-survivor and helps put everything into perspective as just a building site now, so if you just go down, you struggle to picture everything. For eating strongly suggest you go to Balthazars http://www.balthazarny.com/ Book now though as you will end up only getting a table at 11pm if you try a couple of days before. For deli's if you like your massive pastrami sandwiches go to Carnegie Deli on Broadway or Katz deli, made famous by the film When Harry Met Sally. You must also visit Dean & Deluca in the SoHo area. Most amazing food store and to re-kindle your inner child vist teh toy store FAO Schwarz near Central Park, made famous in the film BIG with Tom Hanks. Sadly I could not find the floor piano. I could go on, but the best thing to do is walk and get lost, discovering little gems for yourself. If you want to see the skyline and save a few dollars on various trips, going up skyscrapers etc, walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and at the half way point take in the panoramic view of Manhattan. Priceless! Enjoy!!!!!! |
