In Response to Re: Bush and Blair accused of War Crimes: I am curious to know - why do war crimes always seem to be determined by the victors? For example, how many of the Allies, as opposed to Germans, were accused of war crimes after the Second World War? I am really curious to know as I cannot believe that the Allies were entirely unblemished when it came to atrocities... Posted by skyesteve You are right. Following the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial people said it was victors justice. I suppose that is true. But if the Nazis had won the war do you think they would have put the allies Generals and leaders on trial?. You must also remember that some of the accused at Nuremberg were aquitted, do you think the Nazis would have aquitted anyone. Trials following wars will always by definition be by the victor. That is why we must have the UN War Crimes Tribunal or The International Criminal Court to ensure all accused of war crimes are tried. A good example is the Yugoslavia War Crimes Tribunal which tried accused from all sides of the war. |
