And memories last a long time. I saw a patient a few weeks ago who considered himself a Dacian and wanted reparations from the Italians because of the damage caused by Trajan.

It would be interesting a research to be done.  To see how much money has spend the occidental countries , for the wars , after the ww II  untill now . And when we shall learn that amount of money , we could calculate how many famillies ( from their own countries ) they could pull out from poverty with this money.  And after that we could ask them why with this money they didn't save their own people but prefered  to ''save '' people from other countries - strangers.
Now maybe somebody could answer that the profit that  the big western oil and other  companies had from this wars  is much biger than the cost of the war .  But i doupt if the simple USA or UK citizent has any profit from this  .  I suspect that the interest of all the USA citizens in this matter , is not the same .

As the original poster of this topic I have been quite surprised by the mixture of comments and level of debate. I have no time at all for The Kuala Lumpar War Crimes Commission. As someone interested in the background of the topic.I was curious what the response would be. Generally people felt very strongly in favour of British and American Intervention but there was a very heated discussion about the background and politics to it. I feel passionately  about War Crimes - and am glad thsat people were genuinely giving their views strongly and passionately.

I am curious to know - why do war crimes always seem to be determined by the victors? For example, how many of the Allies, as opposed to Germans, were accused of war crimes after the Second World War? I am really curious to know as I cannot believe that the Allies were entirely unblemished when it came to atrocities...

You are right. Following the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial people said it was victors justice. I suppose that is true. But if the Nazis had won the war do you think they would have put the allies Generals and leaders on trial?. You must also remember that some of the accused at Nuremberg were aquitted, do you think the Nazis would have aquitted anyone. Trials following wars will always by definition be by the victor. That is why we must have the UN War Crimes Tribunal or The International Criminal Court to ensure all accused of war crimes are tried. A good example is the Yugoslavia War Crimes Tribunal which tried accused from all sides of the war.
