David Cameron and Nick Clegg will be announcing a cabinet reshuffle this week, with various MPs likely to be moved about. I realise this is tittle-tattle at the moment as we do not know if current Health Secretary Andrew Lansley will be moved on (he's the only one who understands the Health bill after all) but who would you like to see replace him? Choosing a realistic candidate...

Royal College of GPs President Iona Heath (a jolly good egg). Why, for these important Government positions do we insist that the occupant has to come from MPs within the ranks of the sitting Government? The Prime Minister can, in theory, offer the job to anyone. Why don't they have the courage to do just that?

Or perhaps I'm wrong (I'm not well up on UK constitutional law) and maybe they do have to select from that limited gene pool which is elected MPs (although it doesn't seem to stop them putting unelected Lords in the Cabinet).

I completely agree skyesteve! Shuffling ministers around from pillar to post doesn't make any sense. It makes it look like the post of Health Secretary, Education Secretary, Culture Secretary are interchangeable. Why not get the public to vote from a pool of candidates who are professionals and who actually know about the profession to run the department's affairs, rather than giving the keys to a politician who has limited professional knowledge in the area?

I was very sceptical of this happening but it appears that Lansley has been moved on..

It was reported that ministers moved on would be moved on for not delivering - is this true for Lansley?

Apparently it will be Jeremy Hunt who will replace Andrew Lansley... and Hunt is apparently a supporter of homepathy. Interesting.

Oh dear.

Minister for very dilute solutions.

How apt.

Yup Dundee Chest - he is a man who is on record as saying homoeopathy works and should be funded by the NHS. All I can say is thank goodness I live in Scotland and he can have little or no bearing on the NHS here. And to my good friends in England and Wales - good luck - your gonna need it!

Pleased that Lansley is out but dissapointed is not strong enough a word for my feelings about appointing Jeremy hunt. He has come across as a weak personality in the BSkyB affair and this shows that he might be overly influenced by big business that is eyeing up the NHS already.
I disagree with some of the comments above- I'm glad that the appointment has been made from the Commons as it allows for more scrutiny and MPs are directly elected and can be directly unelected too...
