In the UK the Department for Work and Pensions have said they want GPs to do more to ensure patients get back to work. They have said that: "doctors should regard a patient returning to work as an “essential” indicator of successful clinical treatment." The Telegraph report: A new draft of the GMC’s Good Medical Practice guidance states that doctors “must support patients in caring for themselves to empower them to improve and maintain their health”. “This may include encouraging patients, including those with long-term conditions, to stay in or return to employment or other purposeful activity.” Is this something you feel comfortable talking to patients about? Should doctors just focus on making sure a patient has good health or should this be a means to getting them active and in employment?? |
