The UK Faculty of Public Health (FPH) have said that because drinking alcohol to excess has become so commonplace that drinks should have graphic health warning labels on them to show links between drinking alcohol and getting cancer, becoming infertile or aiding domestic violence. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/jul/13/alcohol-packaging-graphic-health-warning?newsfeed=true Do you agree? Yes, absolutely, because even in worst case scenarios, some people will listen, and all it takes is a printing of the label on can to "possibly" help someone. Yeah, I know most will not heed the warnings, but surely there is a small fraction who will. DuaneF |

No, whats the point of putting graphic labels every individual understands his or her well being i dont think that u can creat alcohol free environment 100%. |

Can't see there being much public support for it though, alcohol consumption is pretty much the national past time of choice. They wouldn't want their fun being spoilt by something as petty as reality |

Doesn't hurt to try - there's plenty of advertising space on the back of the bottle (and in some cases the front) to accommodate such advertisements. It will make quite a few people listen when they see what a damaged liver really looks like. I think part of me will find it a shame to see such a label on the back of a bottle of fine whisky or bourbon (yes, such things exist!) but I'll happily swallow that part of my sentiments if it means drink-related crimes and health cases drop sharply. Agree |

Posted by Odysseus Text is far too easy to ignore - graphics are more potent psychologically, especially if they shock or disgust. That's why I quite like the idea of showing someone a picture of liver cirrhosis.

Why? The silly buggers who drink to such excess will merely regard the warnings as another challenge. A sober person might take notice but after a couple of stiff ones will then either forget the warnings, regard it as a challenge, or just not care. Put a financial penalty on alcohol related disease e.g you pay for your alcohol related illness. |

The main thing which has influenced smoking behaviour in Australia is the price. There needs to be a minimal price on alcohol here. One can buy wine and beer at the same price as milk. Graphic warnings I think is Big Brother overstepping the mark. Do we put graphic warnings on the bonnets of cars? How about a picture of someone mangled in a head on collision?? Every time the driver got behind the wheel there would be the picture as a reminder. Yes, lest go forwards ever in the Nanny State. Let the citizen become overgoverned and oversupervised. Whom is government for anyhow? The answer is it is now for Government and the bigger the better and the more regulations. We could have warnings on tooth brushes and toilet seats and on someone's face tattooed saying "HIV +, Danger". How about graphic warnings on jungle gyms in playgrounds and on pedestrian crossings? Yes, bring on the graphic warnings so my bottle of wine over dinner with my wife becomes miserable and pedestrian. |
