There seems a lot of doom and gloom reported in the media about the state of the NHS. Maybe that's just the nature of the British media. Both Clare Gerada and Hamish Meldrum have spoken out about how the "the barrage of media stories attacking NHS care was ‘running down' health service morale and ignored the good work being done by the vast majority of GPs and their NHS colleagues." http://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/newsarticle-content/-/article_display_list/13009506/gp-leaders-attack-humiliating-nhs-news-stories Yet there are plenty of positive things the NHS is achieving, every minute, every day. E.g. Death rates from lung cancer surgery have almost halved over 10 yearshttp://www.bmj.com/content/343/bmj.d7055Is this criticism over the top? Is this part of a wider agenda to make the NHS reforms seem more reasonable? Do you feel the media does enough to back health professionals in the NHS? |
