This is a curious case from the GMC last month:

GPs' Dr Rapinder Adekola and her husband James planned to research the use of spider venom as an analgesic.  They telephoned Venomtech, a Kent based company that produces and sells reptile and invertebrate venom as well as spider silk almost exclusively for Universities and Pharmaceutical companies.  The couple who share an interest in 'ancient remedies' intended to store the venom in liquid nitrogen. The allegation of the Doctors potentially testing the venom (in suppository form) on their patients and children in addition to Dr Rapinder Adekola being uncooperative with her fellow Doctors in their General Practice ultimately led to her dismissal and removal from the register. However after 3 months later the ban was lifted provided she kept to strict conditions. The couple have moved to Dereel - a remote town of a few hundred people 90 miles from Melbourne, Australia. Speaking from her new home (where she is awaiting GP registration) she said 'I wouldn't have a clue how to use venom for Arthritis'. Odyyseus, the company producing the venom was called Orphiuchus - I think I am right in saying it means 'serpent bearer' in Greek?.
