If these measures are introduces by some areas of the UK but not others then how will this affect doctor movement throughout the UK? The national pay-scales exist for a reason. Will people migrate to the better paid areas?

And does this mean that Lansley and Co have decided this is the next step instead of our pension changes, or is this as well as our pension changes? Since the election of the new BMA chairman the pensions negociations all seem to have gone quiet.

How would you feel if you were invited to resign to a new contract or leave the NHS?

I think that they woud have great difficulty in imposing this.  To sack you, they would have to make you redundant, with consequent enormous redundancy payments.

My Trust recently offered a  "Mutually Agreed Retirment Scheme" (MARS) in which you could do that, and receive additional payments ion top of your usual lump sum, but short of what you would get from redundancy.    Some did apply, I did to see what was on offer.  I didn't think it suited me, but then the Trust never got back to me to make a definite offer.   I'm too expensive to sack!

I hope that the BMA will rapidly quash this, on that basis.

I wonder how things will stand for junior doctors who rotate trust to trunt every 6 to 12 months. Will some trusts demand you sign upto the altered terms and conditions if you wish to join them for continuing your training programme?

They are employed by the Region, which half funds their posts (I think), with, I hope the  the Regional tutors and the Colleges behind them. Maybe I'n naive - the Colleges aren't concnerd with employmetn conditons, just teaching and learning.   Interetsting that the tone of media reports is supportive when it wasn't about the penions strike.

Whatever, time to join the BMA!
