In Response to Re: Experimental stroke therapy helps Illinois senator: Thank you all for your comments but stroke Rehabilitation is a a complex and multidiscipinary intervention with Pysiotherapy and exercise only being a part of the plan. There is much more to Stroke Rehab than PT alone and includes interventions by the occupational therapist, Speech and language pathologist, Vocatioal counceller, Prosthetist ( for fabrication of splints if needed), psychologist, Rehab Nurse and the Rehabilitation Physician. Some good links to stroke Rehab and its components here http://www.webmd.com/stroke/tc/stroke-rehabilitation-overview http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/stroke/poststrokerehab.htm http://stroke.about.com/od/livingwithstroke/a/livingwithstrok.htm Posted by drrathore I intentionally didn't go into all these details. That is absolutely necessary. And another very important thing: the family involved in carrying out the exercises and practicing again and again, including all above mentioned. Just as teacher lesson is only part of the learning process, so is the case here. Without patient doing all on regular basis it won't be enough. Another important issue: almost all will experience the scarring process when tonus will rise and rigidity can appear months after the stroke. So, again, a lot of practice can help reduce that element.
