Hi Steve,    I read the blogs,   and I consulted my wives personal Doctor, a Gynecologist of Great skill, and her opinion is that Mammography is of great importance,  and since She is a Doctor,  and I am a CBRNE Expert,  I yield to her opinion!   DuaneF

We all agree that mammography is a useful diagnostic tool which has saved many lives. But no test is without certain risks and the possibility of overdiagnosis. And in case of heatlh care systems like the US, with third party paying there is always a possibility of unnecessary ordering of the test.

A recent Norwegian study concludes " Mammography screening entails a substantial amount of overdiagnosis. "

Hi Duane - you stated clearly mammography does no harm but there is over-whelming evidence that it does (that says nothing about the good it may do). It causes many women to go through pyschological stress and physical trauma because it picks up lesions which are then proven to be benign once they have been removed and which would not otherwsie have been discovered or gone on to cause problems.

Whether that's a price worth paying is not for me to say - i am not a woman. But what is not on is a paternalistic approach which keeps women in the dark about the downsides of mammography and thus denies them the righ to a fully informed choice.

Hi Steve,   I read and understood your post on mammography,  and see your point.   I yield to our family Gynecologist since she is a Doctor and I am not!   I have extensive education in medicine,   but in the end,  I am a Subject Matter Expert in CBRN, so if a Chemical, Biological, or Radiological incident occurs,  I am the  one to call,   but on matters of Mammography I yield to the Doctors.    DuaneF
