This sounds interesting, I'll certainly be tuning in. I wonder if Lansley knows what he's getting himself in to!  BMA members seem pretty unhappy with the proposed reforms to say the least, I'm sure there will be plenty of people looking to lay into him.  I'd definitely like to hear more about the reforms "from the horse's mouth."

If someone gave him an easy way out so he wouldn't lose too much face, would he take it?

There has been much discussion about the proposed new commissioning arrangements for the NHS.  Another far reaching proposal is that patients are to be fully engaged and involved in all decisions about their care and to be “given the information to allow that to happen”.  This should be happening already of course but it can be very time consuming and patients don’t like to bother busy doctors.  Is Mr. Lansley or his advisers aware of new approaches that could make this quicker and more practicable?

Thanks for all your questions - we'll try to ask Andrew Lansley as many as possible.

Don't forget the webcast will be shown live on the BMA website on Monday from 7-8pm. It will be archived for future viewing shortly afterwards if you can't get to a computer at that time.

How much more money will GPs get for commissioning?

What happens to the commissioning budget that is not spent?
Can it be spent on the surgery? Do GPs get it as extra income?

1. The new model NHS depends on seamless pathways of care commissioned from any willing provider, which will need both individual patient record data and transactional data flows which do not exist at present in either the NHS, private or voluntary sectors - and as far as electronic patient rrecords goes, only exist in general practice.
Where is the structure for developing, implementing (or at the least, making available) the systems and infrastructure to support in particular the individual patient record information exchange needed for this while protecting patient confidentiality, security and choice, complying with the Data Protection Act (there is already discussion about the complexities of Data Controllers in Common in real life) and preventing unfair competitive advantage to commercial suppliers?

2. How will GP computing - which is not only the best in the world but mission critical - be funded and supported after 1/4/2113?
Funding was transfered from GMS to PCTs and additional recurrent funding added in 2004 as part of the new GMS Contract: it has not been accounted for as a seperate fund since and appears to be spent on other PCT priorities.
