Brazilian doctors have successfully removed a 6-foot metal bar from a construction worker’s brain, the Associated Press reported. Eduardo Leite, 24, was wearing a hard hat Wednesday when the bar plunged five stories, piercing the back of his skull through the hat and exiting between his eyes. “They told me he was laying down (in the ambulance) with the bar pointing upward,” Leite’s wife, Lilian Regina da Silva Costa, told the AP. “He was holding it and his face was covered in blood. His look was as if nothing had happened. When he arrived he told the doctors he wasn’t feeling anything, no pain, nothing. It’s unbelievable.”

It is amazing. I have seen an ex-soldier (WW2 in European theatre) shot through the back of the head with the bulllet exiting the ethmoids and he was normal and a man with a 10 foot plank (3x 2 inch) from shoulder to shoulder under the aortic arch and out again who is alive and well. I saw a man who came into the ER with a runny nose. We did a Dextrostix and it was CSF. A skull Xray showed a bullet inthe frontal lobe. He had shot himself with a 22 calibre rifle and had been knocked out and had amnesia for the event...probably drunk. I have seen impalings with star pickets 2 metres long where the patient survived. The human body can survive lethal events and yet one can die from a fall from the upright position. I suppose one can take the fatalistic attitude. It was not his time. |

Wow. now thats a cool story.Reminds me of the one about Phineas Cage and the railway bar that went through his frontal lobe. I wonder whether this individual will experience any neurological changes after recovery. The mind certainly is a powerful thing... |

It would certainly be a weight off your mind when they remove it;) It is hard to imagine that he would have no neurocognite problems after it not to mention PTSD etc. It is certainly a fast way to increase your total body iron load. |
