I'm applying for medicine 2013 entry, and there's one thing holding me back. I've always wanted to have a family and be a good mum. I'm scared that in pursuing medicine I will be too busy and too tire

In Response to Re: Being a doctor and a mum? Is it possible?: Time management is key. One secret I use is to compartmentalize each project, and or thing I do. I break it down into sub tasks, and keep numerous clip boards, and sticky notes, sometimes I have orange sticky notes Bright Neon, reminding me to read my other sticky notes, I know sort of OCD! DuaneF Posted by DuaneF Glad I am not the only one - my wife thinks I need therapy for OCD! I don't use clipboards but I have a kind of 'windows' operating system in my head. I open and close projects in my mind and everything is kept where it should be. I sound like I am a lunatic but for me it works really effectively and it is amazing how much info one can retain, but it is very important when to know to 'send to trash' - otherwise things can become muddled. I really do sound like a nut case!! |

Hi Florencee Dr Emma Hill, a GP Partner and mother of two, offers some words of advice about what it's like to have a baby if you're a student, junior, senior trainee or later in your career - Read her account here on the BMA working parents pages. I hope you find it interesting and useful. Cat |
