Can anyone share any insight on what you're looking for when you employ a locum and what makes a good locum?

Ability to crack on without too much settling in time? Polite and friendly. Able to make patients feel relaxed.

From my discussions with practice managers over the years that i have been a locum, some of the main features they look for in a good locum are
- a flexible approach when negotiating what you are prepared to do, before you agree to the work
- organised with the documents they need to see, to confirm your validity to work as a locum
- reliability, they want you to turn up if you've agreed the gig
- being punctual
- appropriately dressed
- pleasant and polite with patients and staff -especially receptionists
- good communication skills not just with the patients
- able to let the manager know in advance how you like your surgery booked (eg i request 5x 10 minute appts per hr with an admin/ catch up slot as the last slot of the hour)
- competent to use their computer system, so do your preparation thoroughly, i have in the past arranged to attend early (in my own time) to familiarise myself if it has been a 'new' system
