Famed director Tony Scott has jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles in an apparent suicide. Scott was 68. According to media sources, witnesses saw Scott scale the fence, then jump off the 185-foot bridge without hesitation, as onlookers watched in horror.

According to an ABC News report, a source close to Scott says that he had been battling inoperable brain cancer, which the media believes could be the motivation leading to the suicide. Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told the NY Daily News, “The autopsy is scheduled for this morning. We might (see a brain issue), but we don’t have anything medically confirmed at this time.”

Scott was pulled from the water hours later by the Los Angeles Port Police. The Associated Press reports that Scott left a note in his car and another in his office, though initially they were not reported as suicide notes.

Scott director of numerous blockbuster movies including Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide, and most recently, Unstoppable with Denzel Washington.

Tony Scott was married to his third wife, actress Donna Scott and they have twin sons.

Tragic, really.

I suppose we should wait to hear the result of the PM later today.

Tony Scott directed so many of my favourite films:
Top Gun
Days of Thunder
Man on Fire
Last Boy Scout
True Romance

Style over substance my arse.  He was a talented guy, and a real shame that he died, whatever the cirumstances.
