Nick and Dave announced their plans for the NHS this week. While most of the attention went to scrapping plans to close A&Es, lots of other plans were announced (see here). Here are those that caught my eye:

"We will enable patients to rate hospitals and doctors according to the quality of care they received, and we will require hospitals to be open about mistakes and always tell patients if something has gone wrong."

Patients can already rate their GP Practice on nhschoices, but do they mean individual doctor ratings will be introduced like the awful iwantgreatcare?

"We will reform NICE and move to a system of value-based pricing, so that all patients can access the drugs and treatments their doctors think they need."

Is this the end of NICE as we know it? Does anyone know what value-based pricing means?

"We are committed to the continuous improvement of the quality of services to patients, and to achieving this through much greater involvement of independent and voluntary providers." and "We will give every patient the power to choose any healthcare provider that meets NHS standards, within NHS prices. This includes independent, voluntary and community sector providers."

much greater involvement? Does this mean more privatisation?

If this does lead to privatisation, wont the NHS be going backwards to the times when the poorer members of the society were reluctant to seek diagnosis and treatment. So instead of developing and progressing forewards, the NHS have been forced to go backwards?

The new RCGP chair, Dr Clare Gerada, captures the concerns of the profession specifically with the advent of consortia and the decommissioning of NICE in today's Guardian. The main problem envisaged is the potential erosion of the doctor-patient relationship:  "Patients will worry about treatment decisions – are they being taken in their best interest or the best interest of the GP consortium's budget?"

When tuition Fees , VAT, Taxes are allowed to increase, also the people will share the burden  of the nation's health cost . Change the NHS card into a chip ,bring it when a person  seeks medical advice. In GP practice ,& also in Pharmacy for dispensing medicines . 1-2 % percent of taxable income as a fee for these services  is  a good option to improve Health  services. This will start to stop carpet taxing. Tax on service when used is fairer

So what was it they wanted to do?
Oh yes, of course, muck everything up!
It's like their academy idea for schools which is really pointless- setting up your own curriculum???? How will people measure how clever you really are????
I suppose in recent years the pharmaceutical industry has changed it's perception of rare diseases and has now moved on to supplying them- at a very high cost obviously to benefit them.
What really made me sick was a friend of mine who was talking about her mum (a GP) going to this pharmaceutical talk to update on latest drugs. They gave out free drugs and freebies to put on their desks to advertise to patients. I was horrified!
