The recent referendum on the Alternative Vote has got me thinking.
As the NHS means so much to everyone in the UK, why didn't we vote on the NHS health reforms instead of our voting system? Surely this would have been a more worthwhile idea than what we actually got on May the 5th?.

I do agree with you, but sadly that is not the way it works and would open up a whol can of worms on what voters feel they should have the right to have a say in and ultimately lead to no longer having the need for a goverment. Just a few issues I am sure people would want to vote on include:
Our troops in areas of conflict
Bailing out the banks
Fuel duty
Changing the law on strike action
The Royal family

It's very tempting to say yes, here. But sometimes you have to let politicians get on with running the country. Where do you draw the line? If you conduct a poll on the NHS, why not on academies, selling off forests etc.

Referendums should be used very sparinginly.
