An interesting post! It would be a good policy decision by the British Heart Foundation in urging people to forget "mouth-to-mouth" and to concentrate on chest compressions when performing CPR.

As mentioned in the link, this style of CPR has been advocated by the Resuscutation Council since 2010.  Their Guidelines for ABLS from then suggest that it is better to;
 "
Teach CPR to laypeople with an emphasis on chest compression, but include ventilation as the standard, particularly for those with a duty of care."
   In other words, get the public pumping not blowing.   I take every opportunity of having a ward nurse or medical student in the anaesthetic room at induction to teach the management of the suddenly unconcious.  I'm concerned how poor their even theoretical knowledge is, and how out of date it remains in this respect.

NOT a good teaching aid, SURB!
Hard and fast is the ticket!

We used to say that CPR hadn't been done properly unless the patient had some broken ribs.
