The term ''Workforce planning'' is one that is used a lot today. For the past couple of years the UKFPO (UK Foundation Programme Office) has been placed in a situation of having med school graduates outstripping the number of Foundation Doctor Posts in the UK forcing some to go abroad. The Student branch of the BMA has campaigned tirelessly to fight to ensure that every graduate has a job. BUT there are other ways to plan ahead. Today on BMJ Careers, an article outlined a suggestion to cut the number of medical school admissions by 2% starting with the 2013 intake. BUT even this cant solve our immediate continuing problems of workforce planning. What are your opinions on this subject?? How can we better plan the medical professions workforce?? Have you/someone you know been placed in a situation of not getting a job/post because of there ''too many people in the queue'' so to speak?
