Dear all

We are going to be putting live our new homepage on 10th April 2012. The site will remain the same but hopefully the homepage will give you a wider variety of content on the site.

Here's what the new homepage will include:

- Most viewed in last 14 days
- A 'featured' areas where we can promote a hot topic, an event or a competition
- The ability to 'see more discussions' on the various widgets. Because of the increase in traffic on doc2doc, often the latest discussions in the right hand widget move on quite quickly and users often can't keep track of something they posted on earlier on in the day. This 'more' option will expand the list of latest discussions posted on.
- A forum in the spotlight area, which we will change weekly

Also, coming soon...

- a button which allows you to add discussions to your portfolio, so you can make a record of all what you have posted on or what you have read
- A General Clinical forum RSS feed

If you have any questions or suggestions of what you would like to see in the 'featured box' please let us know!

Will the "portfolio" button be for the BMJLearning portfolio, a new D2D portfolio, or our existing Royal College portfolios?

It will link to the BMJ Learning portfolio for now, but you can export the contents for your RC portfolios.

Any chance of adding a twitter tie in to the wishlist for future? - sometimes people comment on our discussions on twitter and unless we spot them and copy them back in manually that content gets lost

Indeed, this is on our list of requirements for our next update. Twitter comments often get missed, and it would be great to have an automated system to capture them.

Hi again

As you can see it has now gone live. Let us know what you think.

Also - what would you like to see in the 'Welcome to doc2doc' box - we can edit this so we can keep things topical and showcase discussions, events etc.

I really like the page tht opens up when you ask for more discussions - giving the first post of each discussion tempts you in - good work D2D team. shame "more disucssions" option isn't still available once you're into a discussion (you just still get the old style list of 10.

Weird!

I click on 'see more discussions' and get loads of posts.
But the one with my face and name on isn't mine!  It's the original post anout A&E negligence posted by Kirked.

Matthew, why are you the BMA or your sofware designers tryi got reinvent the wheel?  The format of message boards is fairly well established now and there are too many exmpales for me to quote any.  EVERY one offers a "new posts since you last visted"  option, and it's essentila in a busy board as this has become.
Forget quirky new ideas for now, lets have some fucntionality!

John

Hi John

Hmm  the 'more' link seems to be generating the latest posts but sometimes just the original post from a post that has just been replied to (if you catch my logic...)   I will investigate.

Do you want new posts since you last visited to be tailored for each individual log-in? I can follow up with our technology team on this one.

Two approaches are used:
1/ All posts put up since the user last visited.  Useful if you re a frequent flyer
2/ Posts in the last X hours, with a short default.  Then the user can expand the search, by selecting, say, 8, 12, 24 or more hours back.
