You need not worry about what you know or do not!
First thing is to be firm about the decision to have admission to medicine.
Second important thing to remember is 'No other branch of science is so exciting & worth learning than the medicine'

Space is limited in Medical School and some students are turned away primarily on the basis of
a weak personal statements of purpose or admission essay. You should be aware of the fact that your competition often uses professional help for medical school admission.

as a graduate entry student on a 5 year course... have your finances in place. as a mature student, you will find the younger students a challenge, not to work/study with, but generally about life and conversation regarding this. That's only because of their inexperiences, they catchup eventually. In addition, be prepared to have everyone say you must find medicine easy because you have a degree - which is completely untrue. Yes, mature students may be better organised with life skills and have the experiences for it, but medicine is a subject that is difficult for everyone. it requires hard work and effort - it doesnt matter what age you are - everyone has to do it.

For me front line clinical care was the turning point in the success of my application- properly getting your hands dirty and holding the hand of sick patients is by far favourable to observing one the worlds best surgeon.

Paid work is especially valued / required as a graduate in most cases-from my experience.

Neil-happy to contribute to this ebook if it would have a graduate medicine section?

The myths about medicine being very tough are just that, myths. Work hard and enjoy it!
