I'm at the BMJ NHS reform round table. Around the table we have ...

John Black:president, Royal College of Surgeons
Clare Gerada: chair, Royal College of GPs
Nigel Edwards: director of policy, NHS Confederation
Michelle Drage: CEO, London Local Medical Committees Ltd
Anna Dixon: director of policy, King's Fund
Tony Delamothe: deputy editor, BMJ
Rebecca Coombes: features editor, BMJ

Surprising to everyone here, there are a lot of shared concerns about the NHS reform bill, especially concerning patient care, training, and outcome measures.

You can follow the debate on twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/search/%23BMJNHSreform and the podcast will be available on bmj.com soon.

Michelle quite aptly says the bill is a bit like the Department for Transport saying we need a bus service from X to Y but with no clarity of the route it should take. Clare adds they'd be asking for experienced bus drivers too. Does this analogy ring true with you?

Here is the BMJ Feature on this round table: "We need to 'shake' the bill to make sure it works for patients"

Another bit of shameless self promotion...

We recorded the round table for your listening delectation. You can hear and edited version of it here - it comes to around 18 minutes.

If you want to hear the full thing, and there's obviously lots we couldn't include in the feature or podcast you can find it here - it's 90 minutes long though, so make yourself a cuppa before sitting down to listen.

We like these round tables, and this week's podcast (to be posted later today) is another one we've done on shared decision making... Again there's an unedited version available,. this time split into 3 25 minute-ish chunks.

These lend themselves to discussions of interesting, perhaps controversial, topics - which is why they're quite fun to produce. We definitely hope to have more of them in the future, so keep listening out.
