1. NICE have redrafted guidance on abiraterone (aka Zytiga) for men with advanced prostate cancer – after the manufacturer Janssen agreed to reduce its price for the NHS. If a patient’s disease has progressed despite androgen deprivation therapy and treatment with docetaxel may be offered treatment with abiraterone in combination with prednisone or prednisolone. http://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/index.jsp?action=byID&o=13484

 

2. The Health Innovation Fund (a collaboration between Department of Health and the Wellcome Trust) have held a press conference on their progress. One project is a video game using motion controllers that can track movement of patients and are designed to help patients relearn to use their weak arm and hand after a stroke.
