My christian doctrine teacher at school used to get us to bring in an article from the newspaper that was about good news. Which in the 1980's in Ireland was a bit of hard work -as well as being corny and worthy and goody-goody and everything else that kids hate. A few years later Mr Doyle (who wore sandals) would be proud of that fact that I am posting about some good news for health professionals - the BMJ awards. The awards happened last week and were the first time the BMJ has done this and hopefully we will continue every year from now on. You can read about the winners here. http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/338/apr03_2/b1428 The official highpoint was the lifetime achievement award that went to Judith Longstaff Mackay, who has campaigned against tobacco since 1984. Could you be a winner next year? Check out the link and start to think what projects you could submit. My personal highpoint was meeting a lovely man dressed in a dinner jacket outside Bond street tube - definitely an awards attendee I said to myself. Me: Did you like the awards? Him: They were great - and badly needed at a time like this Me: What did you think of the first winner's speech? Him: Brilliant - summed up what the building industry is all about Me: (to myself and wondering whether to say anything out loud): Excellent - I think we might have been at different awards.
