Adios doc2doc - For Now
This is my final blog post as a medical student, for a site that has ignited so much interest in me; a place that helped me grow and meet some of the most fabulous people the BMJ and its online community could offer. I am all for BMJ products now; there just seems like no other scientific body that is as unique, as diverse or as creatively embedded into all the elements of Medicine, than the one right here.
I would like to thank one person in particular, Matthew Billingsley (Editorial Assistant, doc2doc specialty portal) for proof reading my blogs as editor and for teaching me just so much about getting my points across without killing too many virtual trees. You’ve not only encouraged me into blogging, but you’ve understood my circumstances (horrible internet, travelling, exams and even major dental surgeries!) and you’ve gone out of your way to assist me throughout this 1 year stint. I don’t know why random things like this happen, but it’s amazing how they collide and explode into a brilliant burst of possibilities. I am amazed by people who do so much, for absolutely nothing! The BMJ Group is lucky to have you on board! I feel honored to have met you, I truly do.
I’ve got my final MDs wedged between the medical student in me and the future doctor in me, but I am precariously close to the moment of truth. It all seemed to happen so fast. Yesterday I was a premed, an amoeba extending her pseudopodia into the possibilities of a career in Medicine and today, if you are reading this, I’m probably giving my qualifying MD exams right now!
I can only see so much into the future because I tend to like a lot of things. I don’t quite know what I want to specialize in yet. Life really does come with some surprising turns! Right now, all I know is that I should do my best, know my medicine cold, hope the butterflies in my stomach get tired of the constant influx of acid I keep chugging and decide to go on strike against me for oxidizing their pretty colors. I also realize that this is just the beginning and that thousands did it before me and there will be thousands more doing it after I become a wizened antique myself!
I’ve got some really busy and predictably unpredictable years ahead but I look forward to, hopefully, returning soon to share my thoughts again, within these cyber walls. No matter where I am, or what I do, or the helplessly expanding distance between us, I will always recall my memories about doc2doc with the same fondness as I did when a medical student.
Thank you doc2doc, for being one of the most remarkably rewarding “time use option” in my crazy medical student life.
Cheers, KK Muneer
